President’s Message:

Assistance League of San Jose has provided vital community services since 1983. Our philanthropic programs are designed to serve unmet needs in our community. Chapter members conduct and administer all philanthropic programs without paid staff.

In 2006-07 our largest program, Operation School Bell^®, provided 4400 new school uniforms to disadvantaged students in twenty-two elementary schools. Educational puppet shows on bullying prevention were presented to third grade students. Over 700 preschool students received vision screening. Residents in two convalescent homes were treated to monthly bingo. Several hundred bears were donated for distribution to abused and neglected children. We adopted the Teen Room in the new Almaden Library.

These programs will all continue in 2007-08, as well as our newest program, Readers are Leaders. In addition, other possible new projects will be explored.

We appreciate support from the community. Our projects are funded totally through contributions, grants and fundraisers. You may wish to make a contribution to help ensure that these projects continue or expand. All contributions are gratefully acknowledged and are fully tax deductible.

Members of Assistance League of San Jose are proud of being a chapter of National Assistance League^®. Together with the other 116 chapters, more than two million hours of community service are provided annually through volunteers committed to making a difference in their communities.
