Assistance League® of San Jose is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization whose members have had a passion for supporting vital community services since 1983 and who donate more than 10,000 volunteer hours yearly. Our philanthropic programs are designed to serve unmet needs in our community:
Kids on the Block®, a puppet show on bullying prevention is presented to over 1,000 third graders yearly.
Readers are Leaders, a reading program designed for second graders, instills the love and fun of reading.
Screening Eyes Early, a program to test pre-school children for amblyopia, is conducted in pre-schools throughout the San Jose area.
Caring Hands, a program that grew out of our members' love of needlework, provides newborn baby layettes to Valley Medical Center Hospital.
Bingo games are conducted monthly in two convalescent homes for residents unable to live on their own.
Hug-A-Bear are distributed to neglected and abused children.
Chapter members conduct and administer all philanthropic programs without paid staff. All programs are funded through grants, donations and fundraising activities.
